Hello world!

The Salt Lake Community College Publication Center, a project of the English Department, educates and supports students and faculty about publication work that is curriculum-based, as well as independent publication projects. We teach and assist with book-making and binding, layout, handmade books, and digital publications in many mediums.

Manifesto Contest

Here is the template to use for your manifesto.

When you have finished writing your manifesto, print it:

FILE + PRINT + PAGE SETUP + TABLOID + HP5550 COLOR PRINTER + PORTRAIT + OK

Write the following information on the back of your manifesto:

NAME
STUDENT NUMBER
CUMULATIVE GPA
EMAIL ADDRESS
CELL PHONE NUMBER

Submit your manifesto to the Student Writing Center (AAB 129) by 3 pm on October 13, 2014.

Making Presentations: Tips & Tricks (April 11)

Facilitators Kati Lewis & Lisa Bickmore invited participants to consider the rhetorical situation of presentation making, and to think of making presentations as an adaptive practice, like every other kind of composition.

Multimedia Reflections (April 4)

Kati Lewis led the group in a consideration of the many ways reflection plays out in thinking about learning. We discussed how multimedia reflections can aid students in thinking more deeply and in a more engaged way.

The One-Photo Digital Story Workshop (March 21)

In this workshop, participants learned how to make a digital story using just one photograph. Participants were asked to bring a digital copy of a photograph and a short text (200-300 words). They learned the basics of video editing (the timeline, panning & zooming, transitions, adding various tracks to a video composition).

Handbuilt Books workshop (March 7)

Taught by Charlotte Howe, this workshop focused on constructing a single signature casebound book, using book board, cover and text papers, glue, needles and thread, awls, rulers, scissors and bone folders. Participants created the textbook, then covered the book board with cover paper, added a decorative inset, and finally stitched the binding.
